The Amazon Spanish College - Breathe in life
The Amazon Spanish College in Colombia offers a unique opportunity to study Spanish while immersed in the Colombian culture and discovering the wonders of the Amazon rainforest. With the help of a truly inspiring environment, highly personalized courses and holistic service we aspire to make your stay the experience of a life-time.
An inspiring environment
The Colombian Amazon is a destination full of life. With unparallelled fauna and flora the queen here is mother nature herself. The Amazon Spanish College is located in Leticia, in the southernmost part of the country, where Colombia, Peru and Brazil meet the Amazon River. Its location makes Leticia a truly unique place to learn Spanish. The city is a direct neighbor of the Brazilian city of Tabatinga and the island of Santa Rosa, Peru. It is peaceful and calm with a population of 40 000, making it a safe location. Due to its closeness to the Amazon River and the rainforest, Leticia serves as a base for eco-tourist activities as well as for studies of wildlife and flora in the Amazon region.
At the Amazon Spanish College we understand that nature inspires great creativity and learning. This is why we feel that the cultural and natural atmosphere in Leticia is perfect for Spanish studies. Here you wake up to the singing of birds and go to sleep to the croaking of frogs. Whether you are looking for an adventure or a chance to slow down and connect with nature, Leticia and the Amazon offer the unique opportunity to breathe in life at its purest.
The College offers highly personalized courses of one to three weeks, starting each Monday throughout the year. The standard Spanish classes are held privately or in groups of two to five students and are limited to the mornings, leaving the afternoons free for exploration or participation in the college’s free cultural activities such as Amazonian handcraft, Colombian cooking and visits to local communities.
As a part of our commitment to make your learning experience unique we offer a range of different courses. Besides the standard and intensive courses we offer the possibility of combining your Spanish lessons with Amazonian studies, Brazilian and Colombian dances or visits to natural reserves. We also have volunteer and training programs which provide a great opportunity to interact with locals and practice your new Spanish skills.
We understand that a great deal of learning happens outside of the classroom. Through our personalized courses, our free cultural activities and our holistic service we aspire to provide the best possible platform for unforgettable experiences.
Regardless of which course you choose you will be welcomed with equal enthusiasm by our staff at the Amazon Spanish College. We are known for our excellent service and commitment to making everything you need available to you. At the College we have a holistic approach to service, meaning that we understand that there is more to your stay than classes and accommodation. No matter what happens, be it an unforeseen event such as a sudden rainfall or simply finding that there is a hole in your schedule that needs filling, our staff is there to help you.
The Amazon Spanish College shares facilities with the Amazon Bed & Breakfast Hotel (www.amazonbb.com). During your course you have the option of staying with a Colombian host family or in one of our comfortable bungalows at the hotel, using a special student discount. The college is located at the heart of Leticia, only one block away from the central Plaza Parque Santander. This means it is close not only to the coffee shops and restaurants in the centre of town but also to the Amazon River and the rainforest.
We are a small college with a capacity of up to 15 students. To ensure that the course is tailored to the needs of each student we have a maximum of five students per group. Our classrooms are fully equipped with a TV, specialized books, films and documentaries and we share social areas and a garden with the hotel. Most of the classes are taught in the facilities though some are held outside, for example at the market or the local museum. The Amazon Spanish College is a multicultural school and welcomes students from all countries.
